Severn Trent Water
Pete is a Technical Lead in Severn Trent Water’s Innovation Team. He has a degree in Environmental Science from the University of Sheffield and a Masters degree in Water and Wastewater Engineering from Cranfield University.
Pete has played a major role in developing and implementing Severn Trent’s nutrient removal and recovery strategy. He led much of the research that resulted in the widespread adoption of biological nutrient removal processes in Severn Trent, including the installation of novel process flowsheets. Over the last few years he has worked on phosphorus recovery and nitrogen shortcut technologies that have now been implemented at full scale in Severn Trent, A current area of focus is on developing and evaluating technologies that will deliver energy neutral, material recovery wastewater treatment flowsheets that will position Severn Trent favourably in the emerging circular economy.
Building the wastewater treatment works of the future
The presentation will focus on Severn Trent’s ambitious plans to demonstrate an energy neutral, materials recovery wastewater treatment flowsheet. I’ll discuss anaerobic sewage treatment and our plans to build an anaerobic membrane bioreactor at our new test bed facility at Redditch. This test bed will also be used to evaluate technologies that will allow us to recover valuable materials from sewage, including cellulose, bio-plastics and nutrients, and I’ll discuss the collaborative research in this area that Severn Trent are delivering with research partners across Europe.
